What Was I Made For? Finding Your Purpose in God’s Love

Hey, friends! I’m so glad you’re here. I want to talk to you today about something that’s been on my heart for a while. It’s a question that I think we all ask ourselves at some point in our lives: What was I made for?

Maybe you’ve heard the song by Billie Eilish, “What Was I Made For?” It’s a beautiful and honest song that she wrote for the Barbie movie, but it also reflects her own journey of searching for meaning and happiness in her life as a singer.

The song starts like this:

I used to float, now I just fall down
I used to know, but I'm not sure now
What I was made for
What was I made for?

Wow. Can you relate to that? I know I can. There have been times in my life when I felt like I had no direction, no passion, no joy. I wondered why I was here, what I was supposed to do, and where I could find fulfillment. I felt like I had lost my purpose and my identity.

The chorus goes like this:

'Cause I, I

I don't know how to feel

But I wanna try

I don't know how to feel

But someday, I might

Someday, I might

That’s so real, isn’t it? That’s the cry of our hearts. We want to feel something, anything, that would give us a sense of purpose and hope. We want to try to find happiness, but we don’t know how. We hope that someday, we might figure it out. Someday, we might find the answer to our question: What was I made for?

Well, I have some good news for you. There is an answer to this question, and it’s not a secret. It’s not a mystery. It’s not a puzzle. It’s a person. His name is Jesus. And He loves you more than you can imagine.

The Bible tells us that we were created by God, in His image, for His glory. That means that God made us to reflect His beauty, His character, His love. He made us to show the world who He is and what He’s like. He made us to enjoy Him and to be enjoyed by Him.

That’s our purpose. That’s what we were made for. To love God and to be loved by Him.

But how do we do that? How do we love God and be loved by Him? The Bible tells us that we do that by believing in Jesus Christ, His Son, who died for our sins and rose again to give us eternal life. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. He is the bridge between us and God. He is the one who makes us right with God. He is the one who fills us with His Spirit. He is the one who gives us a new heart, a new mind, a new life.

When we believe in Jesus, we become God’s children. We become part of His family. We become His friends. We become His beloved. We become His masterpiece.

That’s who you are. That’s who I am. That’s who Billie Eilish is. We are God’s children, His friends, His beloved, His masterpiece.

And that changes everything. That changes how we see ourselves, how we see others, how we see the world. That changes how we live, how we love, how we serve. That changes how we feel, how we think, how we act.

When we know who we are and whose we are, we can live with purpose and passion. We can live with joy and peace. We can live with hope and faith.

We can live like we were made for.

So if you’re reading this, and you’re wondering what you were made for, I want to invite you to discover the love of God. I want to invite you to explore the Bible, and to see the amazing story of God’s grace. I want to invite you to pray to God, and to ask Him to show you His love. I want to invite you to find a church, and to join a community of people who love God and love each other. I want to invite you to experience the difference that knowing and loving God can make in your life.

You were made for more than this world can offer. You were made for God. And He is waiting for you.
